Senior Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton

Welcome to CyberVista’s Student Spotlight Series. We regularly keep in touch with our alumni and highlight their experiences using the CyberVista system. Course completed: Security+ On-Demand

CyberVista: Tell us about your job and current responsibilities.

I previously interned with Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) for three summers while I was in college, but I joined full-time after graduation almost 2 years ago. Now, as a Senior Consultant, I work for a healthcare client supporting their mobile applications.

CyberVista: Why did you decide to take on Security+?

I’m not an extremely technical person, but I realized that adding that next level of understanding would be beneficial for my current role, and would likely come into play in future opportunities. This was something that decided to pursue for my own understanding and I was told that Security+ was a great way to get your feet wet and get a broad overview.

CyberVista: What was your CyberVista course experience like?

I originally signed up for the Live Online Security+ course, but ultimately ended up in the On Demand course instead. The Live Online course is great for students who need the added structure or are new to the industry, but the On Demand course had plenty of resources that helped to prepare me for my exam.

CyberVista: Which CyberVista study resources were most helpful?

I found Kelly’s [instructor] recorded light board lectures very helpful because she had a unique way of explaining concepts to make them stick. I also got a lot of use out of the lesson book and your practice quizzes with their answer explanations.

CyberVista: Did you have a favorite Security+ domain or topic?

I really enjoyed the Domain 5 with the risk management and continuity planning. I liked learning what you need to do in a situation. My least favorite was Domain 3 on architecture and design.

CyberVista: Tell us about your exam experience.

On my exam day, I went to a local testing center and ended up using most of the exam time to go back and review my answers. The performance-based questions were so much better than I expected, but I was on pins and needles waiting to find out my score as I filled out the closing survey. I was so relieved when I got to the end and saw that I passed!
